**Part of the Elizabeth Gaskell Bi-Centenary**
Knutsford where Elizabeth Gaskell grew up is well known as her inspiration for Cranford but other stories and her letters also tell of her links with Tatton and Dunham Halls, Tabley House and Capesthorne, and the Cheshire countryside. Dr Peter Holland, her uncle, attended the Egertons at Tatton much as she portrayed him in Wives and Daughter; he was also doctor to the Leicesters of Tabley where Elizabeth enjoyed picnics. Staying at Capesthorne resulted in her meeting with Charlotte Bronte. She also knew the Gregs of Styal and Bollington. Learn more in the exhibition at Tatton Park, based in the Mansion.
