Beartown Brewery was formed in December of 1994. In March 1995 the first brew was sold. In January 1997, Beartown Brewery Ltd was formed. In 2003 Beartown Brewery Ltd was renamed Beartown Group Ltd and allowed all the pubs to come under the same company name.
It had its first premises in a small industrial unit in Varey Road on the Eaton Bank Trading Estate in Congleton. The brewery slowly expanded over the years, which resulted in the Brewery having 3 small industrial units. It quickly out grew these and has now re-located to Spindle Street with 3 times the space.
One of the names of the first beer that was brewed was called SB bitter. The name was derived from the fact that the site of the brewery in Varey Road was once the site of Samuel Bull's silk mill, so they named the beer after the man. Times have move on from them early days and now that SB Bitter has been upgraded and renamed Bearskinful 4.2% A.B.V.
