Knutsford
Cheshire
WA16
Dating back to 1864, Knutsford’s May Day festival is a highlight of the town’s calendar and takes place on the first Saturday in May.
Knutsford's Royal May Day Parade takes place on Saturday 7th May 2011 between 2pm and 8pm and the procession starts at Marshall's Yard.
The event attracts thousands of visitors every year, who come to watch the parade travel along the streets of Knutsford to the Heath, where there is a crowning ceremony for the May Day Queen.
The procession is a riot of costumes, Morris dancers, brass bands and a whole host of characters. At the end of the parade, the Royal May Queen appears, accompanied by foot guards, ladies in waiting, and the crown bearer.
There will also be a Maypole and a funfair on The Heath, for all the family to enjoy.
